This was the day for which she'd always dreamed -
The S.S. Elementic, set to sail!
The sparkling water tossed and rolled and gleamed
As did the fin of water on her tail.
Suddenly, with one enormous scrape,
The ship submitted to the shining depths.
A mere word raced through Ceto's mind: "Escape!"
As she watched in terror drowners at their deaths.
Desperately she struggled to evade;
Shattered glass and blood was all she knew.
Putting on a dogged masquerade,
With one strong lunge of strong hind legs, she flew.
Pain and horror lapped at her false nerve
As slapping ocean drowned out all the din.
Gathering herself and summoning her verve,
She welcomed lapping water at her skin.
For almost an eternity she swam,
Thrashing, treading, gulping fleeting air,
'Till finally, a great mind-jostling slam
Told her she was home despite her dare.
